Young Child Bitten by Dog in Richmond

A seven-year-old child suffered injuries after a dog attacked her in Richmond, Virginia, according to NBC12.

The child was playing in her front yard when the dog jumped his fence and attacked her, biting her backside and dragging her across the yard. According to medical records, she was taken to the hospital and treated for dog bites; the dog’s owner claims there was no dog attack, but the canine was put on quarantine. The owner herself claims the pet is a “bad dog” who she keeps in the house.

The dog remains on quarantine.

Dog attacks are always terrifying and often very injurious; the terror is magnified when the victim is a young child completely incapable of defending herself, and the injuries can be that much more severe. The city will presumably decide whether or not the dog is safe enough to remain in his owner’s home; if it turns out that the dog is vicious and a danger to neighbors, then hopefully corrective action of some kind will be taken.

Dog bites can come out of nowhere, even from dogs that appear friendly and have shown no aggression in the past. Virginia law stipulates that dog owners have a duty to ensure that their pets are kept safely contained and that owners take appropriate action if their dogs are believed to be dangerous. If a dog has bitten and injured you, you deserve compensation for your injuries.
