Five people, including a child, were hurt in a dog bite incident in Virginia Beach on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 27, 2026, according to 13News Now.

Virginia Beach police received a report of a dog bite on of Northvale Drive at 3:31 p.m. When officers arrived, they found multiple people injured. By then, the dog owner had already secured the dogs. Police have not said how many dogs were involved or what breed they were.

Three of the injured were taken to area hospitals by Virginia Beach EMS, and the other two were treated at the scene. Police have not released information about the extent of anyone’s injuries. Virginia Beach Animal Services officers are investigating, and police say the investigation is still active.

What Happens Next

Animal Services will try to piece together what led up to the bites. They’ll usually look at whether the dogs had bitten anyone before, whether they were properly kept in, and whether their rabies shots were current. What they find often decides what happens to the dogs and whether the owner faces any charges.

For the five people who were hurt, the road ahead may be longer than a trip to the ER. Dog bites can take weeks to heal, can leave scars, and can make children and adults nervous around dogs for a long time.

If a Dog Has Bitten You…

A dog bite is frightening, and it’s hard to think clearly afterward. These simple steps can help:

  • See a doctor, even if the bite looks small. Bites get infected easily.
  • Report it to Virginia Beach Animal Services or the police.
  • Take pictures of the injuries and keep taking them as they heal.
  • Contact a lawyer for a free consultation.

Many people worry about making a claim against a neighbor, friend, or family member. In most cases, the dog owner’s homeowners or renters insurance pays, not the owner out of pocket.
