Infant Fatally Mauled by Pet Wolf Dog

An 8-day-old baby girl has died after being attacked by her family’s pet wolf dog. Her parents reportedly heard the infant’s cries and rushed in to find the dog standing over her bassinet. She sustained serious injuries to her upper body and head. Tragically, the infant succumbed to her injuries later that afternoon. The dog was taken to the pound and euthanized.

A Child’s Rights to Safety

No charges have been filed against the parents, but the local sheriff says he is working with the commonwealth’s attorney to see if any legal action should be taken against them. There are two other children in the home who are potentially at future risk of the parent’s choices. While no one wants to prosecute grieving parents, there is no denying their lack of responsibility led to the death of their child.

No family should ever allow a baby to be alone with a dog, especially one as large and as unpredictable as a wolf dog. Even small children can be put at risk when spending time alone with dogs. Always supervise kids and pets when they are together.

Wolf-Dog Hybrid Adoptions

No matter where you stand on breed-specific violence, there is no denying that wolf-dogs are borderline wild animals. Wild animals act unpredictably and can lash out violently. While we might trust that our beloved family pets would not hurt us, they are, at the end of the day, just animals who are prone to unpredictable behavior.
