A young boy is recovering following a scary attack from four Rottweilers. The incident occurred in Gratiot County, Michigan, when the child went to visit his step-grandmother. The boy entered into the back yard when the dogs there began barking at him. One dog knocked him to the ground and all four began viciously attacking him. Thankfully, a construction worker at a site nearby heard the boy’s screams and came to the rescue. He pulled the dogs off of the boy and took the child into the home. Unfortunately, the dogs followed after them, attempting to pull the boy from the man’s arms. They were eventually locked in another room away from the child.
Now, the brave young man is recovering from 22 bite wounds sustained in the attack. Sources say that he was familiar with dogs and had spent time around them. Even still, the dogs were ruthless in their attack. The dogs were taken into custody by animal control.
Accidents like this one are sadly all too common. More than 2 million children suffer from dog bites each year. Encourage the children in your life to practice caution around even the friendliest of dogs. Animals can be unpredictable and you can never be too careful around them. Keep dogs tethered when they are around new people. Warn children of dogs’ instinct to chase after people who run and remind them to instead back away slowly in emergency situations. By practicing safe, preventative behaviors, we can save both dogs and children the pain of attacks.
