Two Bitten in TN Dog Attack

Two people were hospitalized in Memphis, Tennessee last month after a scary attack from a pack of loose dogs. News reports say a 56-year-old man was almost mauled to death by the animals when a woman intervened. She’d heard the man’s cries outside her home and came running with a bat to rescue the victim. While initial swings did scare off some of the dogs, she ultimately sustained three bites from four of the animals.

The Impact of the Attack

Both victims were taken to the hospital for treatment. The man was in critical condition upon arrival. No updates have been given to the media about either of the victims. The owner of at least one of the dogs involved in the attack has been arrested. Two of the animals responsible for the bites were taken into quarantine. One of them had been previously quarantined for another attack earlier in the year.

The Danger of Intervening

While individual dogs can do plenty of damage on their own, they’re at their most dangerous when in a pack. It can be incredibly dangerous to intervene. If you see a person being attacked, call 911 immediately. Though it may be tempting to try and rescue the person being attacked, be sure to take every precaution before doing so. As evidenced by this incident, even weapons can prove ineffective against a pack of vicious animals.
