Victim Awarded $150,000 in Chesapeake Dog Bite Case

A former animal hospital employee was awarded $150,000 by a jury, according to an article in the Virginian Pilot. The woman was attacked by a dog on the job three years ago.

The woman claimed that the dog’s owners did not do enough to protect her from harm. The dog bit her on the face while inside an examination room. As a result of the attack, the woman underwent multiple procedures and surgeries, amassing medical bills of nearly $30,000.

Both before and after biting the woman, the dog bit one of its owners.

The owners decided to euthanize the dog approximately one year later when their home insurance company threatened to cancel their coverage.

The lawsuit was initially filed in August 2012.
