VA Woman Fatally Attacked by Dogs

A family is grieving the loss of their young daughter this holiday season after she succumbed to injuries sustained in a vicious pit bull attack. Tragically, the dogs involved were her own pets. Police say the woman took her dogs for a walk in her neighborhood in Goochland County earlier this week. When she did not return home, the woman’s father went looking for her. He found the dogs guarding the woman’s body in a wooded area.

When police came to the scene to investigate, they found that the woman had suffered traumatic, life-threatening wounds to her throat and face. Investigators say she was taken to the ground and knocked unconscious before being brutally mauled by her pit bulls. Defensive wounds indicate that the victim put up a fight but could not get the dogs off of her.

Why the breed of the dogs matters

The pit bull debate has raged for years, and while many advocates might argue that the breed of the dogs involved in this horrifying attack does not matter, the reality is that people need to be aware of the breed’s propensity for violence. While it may be true that pit bulls are no more violent than other dogs, they are bigger, stronger and less likely to stop attacking once they start than other kinds of canines.

What to do after a dog attack

If you or someone you love has been hurt in a dog attack, call the police for help. They can ensure the dogs in question are removed from the area and, if necessary, put down.
