Pit Bull Viciously Attacked Young Girl in Newport News
According to the news report, the six-year-old girl was playing with friends when a neighbor’s pit bull got out of his home and attacked her; the girl was attacked on her head and her ankle at the very least, the latter injury now requiring her to use crutches. Thankfully, a teenager was nearby and managed to pin the dog down to ensure that the girl could get away. Local animal control authorities claim charges are pending while they investigate the incident; the vicious animal is currently under animal control’s care.
Stories like this are both horrible and terrifying. Could one of our children, or a neighbor’s child, suffer the same injuries due to a vicious neighborhood dog? It is incredibly relieving that the young girl got away with “only” the injuries she did—as a Virginia-based dog bite and dog attack lawyer, I have seen enough cases to know that death can result easily enough from a vicious or aggressive dog. We should all be on the lookout for dangerous animals in our neighborhoods, and we should be aware of the dangers they pose to all of us, especially our youngest and most defenseless community members.
