Officials Search for Pit Bulls After York Co. Attack

Health officials are on the hunt for two pit bulls they say bit a person in York County last week. The Peninsula Health District say the dogs – one light brown, the other dark brown – will need to be placed on home confinement if located.

The attack allegedly occurred outside the Walmart on Rochambeau Road. The dogs did not have on collars or ID tags at the time of the incident. They were retrieved by a man and woman shortly after the attack.

It’s critical that these dogs are found so that the victim will know whether or not a rabies shot is necessary. If these dogs were indeed rabid, the shot could be lifesaving for the victim.

Locating these animals will also mean locating their owner – and potentially holding them responsible for their pets’ actions. Pet owners owe it to their dogs and the public to train their animals and restrain them in public. If they don’t, disaster can strike, and the owners will be held liable for damages.

Depending on how bad the attack was, dog bite victims can sustain long-term injuries in such incidents. Hospital bills, lost wages and pain and suffering add up quickly. Pet owners can find themselves footing these bills. After all, no victim should be held responsible for the injuries they sustain in such an incident. We encourage all dog bite victims to reach out to an experienced Virginia dog bite lawyer for advice.
