Dog Attack Sends Richmond, Virginia Man to Hospital

A vicious dog attack sent a man to the hospital and forced police to shoot two canines in Richmond, Virginia, the Times-Dispatch reports.

The attack occurred in South Richmond, Virginia, at Midlothian Turnpike and Erich Road; a man was pinned up against the wall of the Richmond Outreach Center while being attacked by two dogs, having already sustained numerous bites. The police officers were able to get the man to safety, while the dogs ran to a nearby apartment complex. After police led other bystanders to safety and called Animal Control, they attempted to distract the dogs from running to a nearby school bus stop. When one dog reportedly acted aggressively towards an officer, he shot and killed it with a shotgun.

The dog bite victim was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for his injuries. At the time of this posting, it is unclear who, if anyone, owns the vicious dogs.

The police acted bravely and appropriately in this dangerous situation. While nobody wants to have to harm or kill an animal, sometimes circumstances demand it, particularly when there are innocent bystanders nearby who can potentially be harmed by the animals. We don’t know yet who the dangerous animals belong to, but in the meantime, I sincerely hope that the man who suffered injuries from these dogs is recovering.
